Quick enhancements with powerpoint pictures

These enhancements add that little bit extra to your presentations. With a small amount of practice you can replicate these enhancements quickly and effortlessly.

1. Borders in powerpoint

Line Border

Darkened picture

No border

Adding a quick line border to a picture is quick and easy
1. Select the picture
2. Line Color
3. Choose a color that compliments the template or picture. White is generally safe
4. Line Style - 6pt is good width

The same picture behind but darkened
1. Select the picture
2. Edit > Copy
3. Edit > Paste
4. Re-size the copy slightly smaller
5. Select the original picture
6. Picture toolbar > Click Less Brightness about 5-6 times

2. Adding soft shadows behind graphics

Round shadow

Square shadow

Adding a round soft shadow lifts the graphic off the page
1. Select the picture
2. Edit > Copy
3. Edit > Paste
4. Line color > Set this to "no Line"
5. Fill color > Fill Effects > One Color
6. Choose a color that compliments the template or picture, black is generally safe
7. Set the Dark to Light slider to "light" for light backgrounds
8. Set the Transparency "To:" slide to 100%
9. Shading style > From Center > Click the 1st variant
10. Click OK
11. Then re-size the shadow slightly bigger than your picture
12. Draw menu > Order > Send to Back

Adding a square shadow is slightly trickier
1. Make sure you have the snap on grid set to ON . . .
2. Draw menu > Grids and Guides > Snap object to grid
3. Autoshapes > Lines > Freeform
4. Draw this shape below the picture
5. 
6. Fill color > Fill Effects > One Color
7. Choose a color that compliments the template or picture, grey is generally safe
8. Set the Dark to Light slider to "light" for light backgrounds
9. Edit > Copy
10. Edit > Paste
11. Line color > Set this to "no Line"
12. Fill color > Fill Effects > One Color
13. Choose a color that compliments the template or picture, black is generally safe
14. Set the Dark to Light slider to "light" for light backgrounds
15. Shading style > Horizontal > Click the 1st variant
16. Click OK
17. Draw menu > Order > Send to Back
18. Repeat from step 3 for the right hand side shadow

3. Graduated fill color underneath pictures

Yellow to Red

White to Black

Yellow to Red

Simple but dramatic
1. Autoshapes > Basic shapes > Rectangle
2. Draw your rectangle slightly bigger than the picture
3. Fill color > Fill Effects > Two Color
4. Choose a two colors that compliment the template or picture
5. Shading style > Diagonal Up > Click the 1st variant
6. Click OK
7. Experiment with different colors and shading styles

4. Picture in Picture

Light on dark

Dark on light

A very professional trick
1. Insert menu > Picture > From File
2. Navigate to the awesome picture, click "Insert"
3. Size and position your picture
4. Select the picture
5. Edit > Copy
6. Edit > Paste
7. Then re-size the picture either bigger or smaller than the original
8. Picture toolbar > Click Less Brightness about 5-6 times
