Quick enhancements with powerpoint pictures
These enhancements add that little bit extra to your presentations. With a small amount of practice you can replicate these enhancements quickly and effortlessly.
1. Borders in powerpoint
Adding a quick line border to a picture is quick and easy
- Select the picture
- Line Color
- Choose a color that compliments the template or picture. White is generally safe
- Line Style - 6pt is good width
The same picture behind but darkened
- Select the picture
- Edit > Copy
- Edit > Paste
- Re-size the copy slightly smaller
- Select the original picture
- Picture toolbar > Click Less Brightness about 5-6 times
2. Adding soft shadows behind graphics
Adding a round soft shadow lifts the graphic off the page
- Select the picture
- Edit > Copy
- Edit > Paste
- Line color > Set this to "no Line"
- Fill color > Fill Effects > One Color
- Choose a color that compliments the template or picture, black is generally safe
- Set the Dark to Light slider to "light" for light backgrounds
- Set the Transparency "To:" slide to 100%
- Shading style > From Center > Click the 1st variant
- Click OK
- Then re-size the shadow slightly bigger than your picture
- Draw menu > Order > Send to Back
Adding a square shadow is slightly trickier
- Make sure you have the snap on grid set to ON . . .
- Draw menu > Grids and Guides > Snap object to grid
- Autoshapes > Lines > Freeform
- Draw this shape below the picture

- Fill color > Fill Effects > One Color
- Choose a color that compliments the template or picture, grey is generally safe
- Set the Dark to Light slider to "light" for light backgrounds
- Edit > Copy
- Edit > Paste
- Line color > Set this to "no Line"
- Fill color > Fill Effects > One Color
- Choose a color that compliments the template or picture, black is generally safe
- Set the Dark to Light slider to "light" for light backgrounds
- Shading style > Horizontal > Click the 1st variant
- Click OK
- Draw menu > Order > Send to Back
- Repeat from step 3 for the right hand side shadow
3. Graduated fill color underneath pictures
Simple but dramatic
- Autoshapes > Basic shapes > Rectangle
- Draw your rectangle slightly bigger than the picture
- Fill color > Fill Effects > Two Color
- Choose a two colors that compliment the template or picture
- Shading style > Diagonal Up > Click the 1st variant
- Click OK
- Experiment with different colors and shading styles
4. Picture in Picture
A very professional trick
- Insert menu > Picture > From File
- Navigate to the awesome picture, click "Insert"
- Size and position your picture
- Select the picture
- Edit > Copy
- Edit > Paste
- Then re-size the picture either bigger or smaller than the original
- Picture toolbar > Click Less Brightness about 5-6 times
